What are you reading in 2020

I share this story from time to time but I think visualizations are even better. I was never into reading books when I was younger. I'd read maybe once in awhile goosebumps as a kid because I liked it. Then the shows came and I ditched the books and watched the shows afterschool.
When I was a teen I had to 2 books I liked even though it was required for school. One was a banned war book (Can't remember the name) and the other was The Giver. Anything outside of that I wouldn't touch. About 10 years or so probably 12 or 13 years ago because this one book made an appearance and I didn't touch it till 10 years ago because it was said I should read it. I was hesitant at first but then I was like okay. I read that book and I opened a new area of my life. It wasn't the Bible that was the 2nd book I have (in reality it's the 1st that encompasses all in this picture).
The book was Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. If you want to learn something new you read a book thats 80 plus years old. That book lead to 3 books then to 4 then to many more. This isn't all the books and it's still got room for more. I have about 70 to 73 books so far. This is within 10 years of coming across that book which many of the top people in the world have this book in their collection.
I asked Damian J. the creator of FUBU and also hes on Shark Tank when he was in Rosemont with Tony Robbins what was one of the books he attributed to his success starting out and he said Think and Grow Rich. (True story he responded there to my Tweet when we were tweeting him online I was the 2nd Tweet he responded)
Whether you're a reader, an audible person, a YouTube podcast or however if you want to become successful you have to start within. Change yourself first.
Take it or leave it but know I'm gonna do more than you know.

To light it up or not light it up in 2019 part 2 in 2020

To light it up
Or
To not light it up legally.
By Julio Carrasco

To light it up or to not light it up legally? That is the question that if Prince Hamlet was alive today rather than holding a skull in Hamlet Act 3 Scene 1 from Shakespeare’s nunnery scene, he would hold a marijuana “fatty” and decide does he do it or not?

Well hello everyone. A happy New Year to you! No it isn't 2019 it is 2020 so this isn't a repeat but a continuation from what we previously talked about. The legalization of recreational marijuana in Illinois. You know I never thought Illinois would be quick to pass something like this but guess with it being a double edged sword in my own opinion I can see why.

Yesterday January 1st, 2020 in a historic precedence Illinois legalized recreational marijuana to be sold and offered to people here. Let's take a pause and deep breath at what has happened here. This has been a historic moment indeed. A lot of controversy leading up to days right to it but it has officially happened.

I still make my case that I am not a fan of it or even like the smell of it because I don't like being off balance but for something that I saw throughout the news yesterday on TV was amazing. You know what that was? The amount of people lined up at the facilities offering the recreational marijuana. People lined up by the hundreds and even thousands in some locations. To get their hands on the very first legalized product that if you were caught with it in the past you would be in some deep trouble. Crazy right? Not to mention this. Many, many, and I mean many people being released or in the process of being released and having their charges expunged from marijuana possession related offenses. Wow! Crazy! How about what happened next? I touched about this a little bit on my previous post. It didn't happen to the effect I wanted but still something that happened alright.

The age to purchase tobacco products including recreational marijuana went from 18 to 21 years old. That may not seem like a big deal to some but in actuality it sure the heck was! I'm yet to see if people will start increasing more on what I think might happen which is smoking of it on the trains but I haven't gone out like I normally do. Maybe this weekend or next week. I'll ponder on it as I go downtown to an event. It amazes me though the amount of people in line. What is funny is that this is what I think of all this hoopla.

Isn't that something? Now that's my opinion don't take it seriously. Take it with a grain of salt or do as you please.

Now in I believe it was Michigan they came out with theirs December 1st 2019 and within 2 weeks made $3.1 million dollars. Wow. In Colorado the first day sales back on January 1st 2014 the very 1st state to legalize it was over $1 million dollars. Yesterday January 1st, 2020 in Illinois nearly $3.2 Million Dollars of pot products in sales generated... Hang on a sec Julio... My 2020 vision hasn't fully adjusted to what you just said... How much!!!? Yep. $3.2 Million Dollars with a M. It would be interesting if it were to keep a steady pace like that but I highly doubt it but hell if it averaged that by the end of the month that could be close to a $100 Million dollars...

Time to take that deep deep deep breath again Julio because good lordie that is insane!

Here's another thing about that huge amount of a figure. The part that not only frightens me but amazes me and hardly catches me by surprise...Taxes. Yeah. Let's delve on that a tiny bit. Now someone posted on Twitter what they had spent on their purchase of the recreational marijuana and I want to break down the Subtotal and of course the taxes. Look below:

The subtotal was $157 for 2.60 grams. Let's get into Julio's fun talk. Taxes.

Recreational Sales Tax: $16.09
Illinois Recreational Tax: (Infused): $8.00
Illinois Recreational Tax: (THC >35%): $29.25
Total Tax: $53.34 💀
Total: $210.34
Loyalty Points Earned: 3.14 😆

Welp. Welcome to Illinois right? $53.34 in taxes. $210.34 spent on 2.60 grams. I am pretty sure the underground market dealers isn't to worried about that and would probably laughing right now. I'm like good lord. You know I could buy about 6 months of Ramen Noodles from the DollarTree with that $210.34. So yea. I guess were lighting it up for sure here in 2020 in Illinois. As I type this by the way Day 2 of lines have been going on at dispensaries across Illinois and yeah. I wonder will Illinois change the anthem to either Smoke Weed Everyday by Snoop Dogg or Because I got High by Afroman. What do you all think? Either way I could go on and on about the taxes but that image above speaks itself. One thing someone will have to fill me in next time is the loyalty points. That one is hilarious!

Happy New Year and let's see where oh where does this route take us here this year. Peace!

To light it up or not light it up in 2019

To light it up
Or
To not light it up legally.
By Julio Carrasco

To light it up or to not light it up legally? That is the question that if Prince Hamlet was alive today rather than holding a skull in Hamlet Act 3 Scene 1 from Shakespeare’s nunnery scene, he would hold a marijuana “fatty” and decide does he do it or not?

My name is he Julio Carrasco. I’m the Chicago Rican that speaks Spanglish not Spanish that you probably seen around downtown Chicago attending after hour events and volunteering for different nonprofit organizations not to mention running the Bank of America Marathon. On days that I’m not trying to serve more a philanthropic purpose (or playing a doctor on TV, kidding) I sometimes will take on writing a blog or a post or an article on something that makes me wonder how it can affect the future not only for me but for my family and my community and my city because for me Chicago is rooted inside me ever since 1984 and whether I’m living here or living elsewhere home and my kind of town will always be Chicago (Thanks Sinatra!).

So, you’ve heard the headlines coming from the newly appointed Governor, right? He’s on a path to legalize recreational marijuana. Which once accomplished will be bringing tons of revenue for Illinois and especially Chicago. The process before that is those that have been put in jail and what not for letting them out and not only that part but the restitution they would be given from the past. That is one big process indeed! Okay so let’s look at the moving forward and the what if scenario on the pros and cons on this being available for recreational purposes since medicinal is legal and CBD (Cannabidiol) is available because the part that makes it illegal is removed from it and don’t ask me how and what to break down on that part you can do the research yourself because that’s just too much for me to explain. So moving forward Governor Pritzker this is my point of view and opinions on the steps that I believe should be taken because you will have people on both sides of the fence that will agree or disagree with it and whether people like what I have to say or not that is on them I’m just going to voice it the way I personally see it in my own eyes especially in this 2019 digital era that we are in when it comes to taking everything online as it seems.

Today I type this its April 23, 2019 while reading the Reader I notice from the Reader that was printed on April 18, 2019 the cover is shown as Weed Whacked that talks about the process that begins to unravel before our eyes ad one that took my eye and got me to type this was one about the CTA’s Chronic Problem. I won’t go into it you can just look that one up and read the article written by John Greenfield about it but I want to highlight that as a Chicagoan I ride the CTA and the RTA and I’m one that also has to encounter people on the trains specifically smoking on them and for me it does become a bothersome. I start to wonder once you Governor takes the steps to legalize this here in Illinois how that will affect people’s commute on public transportation. Already were seeing more people use Lyft and Uber more and less riding the trains and buses from what studies are showing and I personally belief those smoking on the trains do play a big contribution to that decline. If recreational cannabis is made legal would that mean that people would be able to ride the trains and buses and be inside restaurants and businesses and be able to light it up there as well? I wonder…

Pros to that is revenue would be booming here and new jobs would be created. Crime could possibly go down because if its legal then the drug smugglers can’t bring that here since you would be able to purchase it anywhere that sold it right? However, I wonder personally, that in a state such as this if there is a lot of demand in the beginning and not enough supply made quickly what happens during that period of unavailability? Cons on this matter I wonder more is would the age be 18 or 21 on the purchase of something like this? Since with tobacco the raising to 21 here has I believed already taken place which is good I believe. However, in a matter as such as recreational cannabis even if it were at 21 is that an age that can handle such products like that Governor? I personally don’t believe that. I personally believe and once again probably some people of this age group will be upset with me on what I’m going to say next however I think of the long run and not only me but my family when it is this matter… I believe that the age to purchase recreational cannabis (marijuana) should be raised to 25 years old in Illinois. I personally believe that at 25 you have a bit more maturity and can handle that responsibility especially in public than those under 25 years old.

Now people might say Julio why would you want to bash this it can do so much for Chicago? Why are you on the hater juice on this? I’ll tell you straight out I just don’t like the smell and even if I did try it when it would become legal I’d probably more than likely not even be on the train since when it came to smoking cigarettes and drinking having to see my dad smoke and drink since he was young only to pass away to Lung Cancer in 2006 I personally have a stigma from that and even though this would have a different impact I just get that view of what tobacco had on my dad and just see it applied here. By the way I also do have Asthma and probably some will say oh well you know the medicinal could probably be good for your Asthma and you should try it and I’ll respectfully decline.

Governor Pritzker you have a huge task at hand I agree it will be a tough one that you are zeroing in on making legal however if you somehow come across this I would say thinking forward be prepared for the demand to possibly output the supply. Also if raising the age on something like this is not your cup of tea then be prepared for a decline in public transportation and an increase in ride share because if you make recreational marijuana legal then more and more people lighting up that fatty will definitely be using that on both the bus and trains and also in places of business. It will be like going to any casino outside of Illinois in say Indiana and as you walk in you get hit with the smoke and as you leave all your clothes and hair and everything you currently are wearing will have that smell which could turn off someone you come across that isn’t prepared to be near you during that time.

The demand for that will be high for the younger ones. The demand will also be high for those incarcerated for possession of marijuana as they will have to be released and given some financial restitution. Just know that if certain steps aren’t taken once this becomes legal than I see in 6 months to a year after it is in affect that the breaking news on this will not be goof for Illinois. I hope I’m wrong on what I am foreseeing. On an issue like this I would really hope I was wrong but for me my gut tells me this will not have a good outcome. It may work in places like Colorado or California but Illinois and Chicago well that could take a different toll where the price is a bit higher than usual. If I was Prince Hamlet, I would be to not light it up because if you light it up blindly without any guidance you will get burned. No pun intended.

Honor Code

Life. Liberty. Pursuit of Happiness. All can define the one word that our forefathers fought to create this country. Freedom. The United States of America was built on bringing freedom to people like you and I. The men and women that serve to protect that freedom for us have been doing it ever since our forefather’s time. Think of it as a code of honor and trust. When you put on the uniform you must hold a law of integrity, humility, honesty, and loyalty that you will not abuse the powers given to you to serve and protect people like you and I and that you will not take those powers into your own hands because justice always prevails in the end and once were all gone from this planet there will be someone that will be judging us all and everything we’ve ever done will be laid on the table.

My post today is in relation to a lot of current events going on that you are hearing about in the media. From racism, politics, corruption, entitlement, you name it. I’m about to cover what needs to be covered as best as I can and I want to point out that this isn’t to be a bashing post but more a realistic wake up post for Americans to realize that we need to reform a lot of thing in this country but we have to understand that doing the easy things (procrastinating and putting topics off till the next day, and the next day) life will be hard, and doing the hard things (addressing entitlement, being honest and loyal and a person of their word) life will be easy. I started this post with regards to those that serve this country, our states, our city, our law enforcements as a mean to address that reform has to be here as well because corruption exists everywhere that you can’t lie to the person that you see in the mirror each day and eventually you will be caught. I want to note that I have nothing against the law enforcement and I support those that protect and serve our safety and this is more a post as to say that corruption can no longer exist in this country and especially in the law enforcement. If our forefathers were alive they would agree that when you put on the uniform you were given a duty to protect the country they created for you and I. So to the many that actually are protecting and doing the right things I am proud of you good men and women. For those that are in training to protect and wear the uniform or looking to I say this when you put on this uniform and badge you are saying that you will be honest, humble, loyal, trustworthy, and will not use the powers vested in you for your own means and will honor the code of honor and that doing anything that isn’t honorable is considered un-American.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness define Freedom. Greed, dishonesty, entitled, corrupt define things in this country that needs reform big time. From the people that put on the uniform to protect to the people that are in office to the average person on the street there has to be something that we must be united to agree that if we want freedom we have to do things the right way and not the unlawful way.

I’ll start this first with entitlement. What are entitlements? In the United States, an entitlement program is a type of "government program that provides individuals with personal financial benefits (or sometimes special government-provided goods or services) to which an indefinite (but usually rather large) number of potential beneficiaries have a legal right...whenever they meet eligibility conditions that are specified by the standing law that authorizes the program. (As defined off of Wikipedia) I truly believe because of entitlements like these (Social Security, Public Assistance, etc.) that many Americans don’t realize that this is one of the many reasons that this country owes over $18 Trillion dollars. That is how much debt we have at the moment and growing which is equivalent to over $57,000 per citizen and over $154,000 debt per taxpayer. This is our National Debt. In 2008 our national debt was over $9 Trillion dollars and in 7 years we doubled however only a politician will say it doubled but the deficit went down. In 2008 the deficit was over $488 billion and in 2015 it’s over $433 billion so yea wooptydodah. No politician is going to say if you vote for me we’re going to raise taxes, you’re going to have to work longer to get social security, and were going to pay out less so vote for me. People would get the pitchforks ready for someone like that because dealing with the pain is too hard so we’ll keep pushing it off till the next year, and the next year, and the next year. So we need to address that when our founding fathers first created this country they never were on any entitlement and that they worked for themselves and expected us as Americans to work for ourselves and not depend on the government to take care of us. Public assistance is another thing that people feel entitled to but many don’t realize that another entitlement like this will not be around forever. I’m sure many people lately have been seeing many strikes and layoffs happening because of minimum wage issues as well as getting a raise. I have agreements and disagreements regarding something like this because yes I agree that getting a raise and the minimum wage has to be increased because many people need to be keeping up with inflation and the cost of living since they go up. However, I do not agree that we need to go from say a minimum wage that is current in each state whichever hourly is just say example of $7.75 an hour to a $15 or $20 raise right away. That is something I say no sir or no ma’am. People will be like oh but I feel I need this because I should be making what I’m worth. I have a question for those that are for this type of jump. When you first took the job you are currently doing did you not agree for the pay that was given to you on day 1? If so then what right gives you to say you should get that raise if you agreed to something when you first signed up? If you felt you deserve that higher hourly wage wouldn’t you have turned down that position and kept searching till you found what you were worth? I’m sure I would get many gulps at this point because this is a reality wake up check that everyone needs to be addressed to.

Racism I won’t cover too much but will cover just enough that people need to realize that no matter what you do everyone seems to throw the race card or immigrant card or color card however what floats your boat but reality is it doesn’t matter whether you’re black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Albanian, you can name all the races I don’t feel like doing all that but reality is we all bleed the same color so we are all united with red. So to say oh that person is racist or that person is an immigrant. I want you to stop and think about it because we all bleed the same color red and we all are immigrants because our founding fathers were and our families that came to America were so think the race card needs to drop already. Show me how you dress, who you hang around with, the things you are reading and listening and watching and I will tell you the type of person you are and the income you will make. Our minds are really two types when we refer back to Carol Dweck’s book Mindset. We are either a Fixed Mindset or a Growth Mindset. We either lead or we follow. We either stereotype or we don’t. We can’t throw the race card for every little thing. When I hear people complain about certain places passing on laws of no baggy pants in public otherwise they will get ticketed and they say that’s being racist and denying their freedom I say b.s. Baggy pants sagging with your underwear hanging is not freedom of speech or freedom of expression that’s just you wanting attention.

Corruption has to stop period. To have reform we need change. Change people in our office. If you want to help people and help this country I truly believe the people in our office need to be on a limited timeframe and not be in office for life because that adds to the national debt. I believe Warren Buffett said he could solve this national debt problem in 5 minutes. Stop keeping the same people in office for life. Stop paying for them for life and have them contribute to social security just like everyone else. When we have new people in office then we can have new ideas that can push society forward and lower our debt. I understand that we as people are only humans but that doesn’t give anyone the right to do corrupt dishonest unlawful things. Whether you’re a police officer, a soldier, a politician, the president, a religious figure, an average joe schmo worker, it doesn’t matter we have to stride to doing the right things especially for our fellow Americans and our friends and family around the world. You can lie to everyone else but you can’t lie to the person right in front of you in the mirror looking at you which is you. Corruption and lying and cheating and doing illegal things will always come to light and sooner or later justice will be brought to those that try to avoid it. The truth always wins.

To conclude this post I want to say the whole point of this is to show that we have to abide to a code of honor. Not only do law enforcement but politicians, religious figures, and average everyday people. To some it’s a badge or a uniform or a flag, and to others it’s a book, a cross, or your fellow American. Your friends. You family. You and I have to understand that before we can change this country to be honest, loyal, humble, and have a sense of integrity, and trustworthy. We have to first change ourselves first. Once you can change yourself to do the right things with your life then you can help others change theirs. Then maybe. Just maybe. One day we can change the world. Attitude of Gratitude and paying it forward. Acts of Random Kindness daily can make your home, your town, your city, your state, your country, and your world a better place.
